EAST NORRITON >> Twenty one years after one of the area’s two Catholic hospitals closed forever, the other is set to shed its Catholic affiliation as part of a sale to a California-based company.
Mercy Health Systems announced on Monday that Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton would soon be acquired by Prime Healthcare Services.
When the sale is finalized, Mercy Suburban will no longer be a Catholic hospital, a virtue it shared with the old Sacred Heart Hospital in Norristown, also located on DeKalb Pike.
